It turns out ‘spoken word’ is a melange of poetry, comedy and narrative. When it’s done well it’s skillful, challenging and riotously funny.
I saw a preview of Richard Tyrone Jones’ new one-man spoken word tour called “RTJ has a Big Heart” on Monday night. Jones, 31, was struck down with heart failure (dilated cardiomyopathy) a year ago. Here’s my review for the New Scientist Culturelab blog.
