A study of the migration patterns of the spectacular Monarch butterflies led to a review paper on animal migration research, which I wrote about for SciDev.net. In a nutshell: A lot more research needs to be done to determine the effects of human interventions on animal migration - and how this will impact disease spread in animals and humans.
